Hi

I was wondering if you all can help me identify the demographics of torrox especially in the expat community?

Are the majority of expats in torrox retired or working? Are there many young families around? Is it a busy place? Where do the nomads spend most of their time in torrox - any particular cafes or hangout places? If you want to work - are there any places you could be all day where there is good wifi and use their facilities?

Hi there,

In the municipality of Torrox, the immigrant community makes up about 40%. Depending where you are talking about (El Morche, pueblo, costa, etc) the demographics vary. There's immigrants from all sorts of places but, Moroccan, German, British, & 'Scandinavian' make up the largest proportion. There's people who work, people who are retired, people who have young families, single people, gay people...it's very diverse.
Digital nomads are encouraged in Spain, the government is doing a lot to promote this way of working and trying to reduce barriers as much as possible. That said, there's not a culture of working in bars/public places here in Torrox as a whole but, I guess that'll change soon enough. However, most public places have good WiFi/connections, and it's certainly a very pleasant atmosphere to work in. Coffee and other drinks are cheap enough, I can't imagine any bar owner would be unhappy about you working if you also bought some stuff!

The pueblo is quite different to Costa, IMO. when it comes to immigrants It's older, I'd say. 40+ wouldn't be miles off the reality. It's pretty laid back and while Competa is thought of as fairly bohemian/artistic, I'd suggest Torrox Pueblo is better described as cosmopolitan. Immigrants there are more "outdoorsy" than other places. You'll see more people in Rab and North Face jackets than trendy blazers.
