Hi - can anyone recommend what to do about cockroaches in the house? I've spotted a couple of large cockroaches, is it normal or should I be concerned and be looking to get rid of them?

Hi there,

I think they are part of Spanish life! However, they are horrible, I admit, and can be rather persistent. They key is looking for gaps in the walls/floors where they could be getting in. I am very keen to use natural remedies for all sorts of things but I think cockroaches need chemicals, I'm afraid. You can get sprays and liquids from supermarkets or a ferreteria, but if you have found gaps, put the bulk of the treatments there, as they take it back to their nests. Keep floors really clear of crumbs or food spillages (why do you think Spanish women are forever mopping floors? Haha). It might take a week or so of daily treatment but it usually works. Good luck.
