Hi,

At the moment, I get Olivenet IPTV premium for around 37 Euros/month. This gives me access to basic channels across Europe. Not premium, but basic channels like RTL, BBC, ITV, etc.

They have said they are withdrawing this service at the start of the year for SmartTV and to get equivalent channels the cost would now be more like 300 Euros/month. It's scarcely believable but I have confirmed with them (several times in fact) that it is indeed the truth.

Anyway, does anyone have any advice on alternative providers?

And out of curiosity does anyone know why Olivenet might behave in such a self-destructive manner?

Cheers,

Mike

I'm not saying that you are incorrect but are you sure there wasn't a simply translation issue, hearing 300€ instead of 300mb? Their website would seem to differ significantly from what you are suggesting

Hi

Yes, it wasn't the broadband that had the price increase. It was the TV service for channels across Europe. Originally you could get Pan-european TV channels for about 40 Euros on IPTv, now they are switching that service off and you need to buy SMART TV where for example the British TV channels are 30 Euros just themselves. So to get all the pan European channels again would be in the region of 300 Euros. I triple checked it with them as I was staggered at a 6-fold increase

Cheers

I also got my Spanish colleague to call them as yes you're right I didn't want any ambiguity in translation.

Fair enough. I am perplexed though as that will surely remove them from the playing field. Take a look at Avatel..... hopefully there is no bad news coming from them!

Yes, exactly. I put that to them with what their price hike meant to me and rather than defend it they said they awaited my decision. I just wonder if its something legal. Thanks for the Avatel tip, will take a look.

For basic UK channels such as BBC iPlayer ITV and Channel Four you only need a 'low cost VPN App' this routes the signal via a third party server. (Hides your IP address if not located in the UK).

You can use use a Firestick or much better a laptop/PC or something like a Mac or Mini Mac, via HDMI, which can be really stable. Note firms who offer an IPTV service showing mainstream TV ' (Like UK TV) are not legal' containing copyright material, unless they have permission & pay for such rights. (To date people will find no such record of such rights being granted)  It's unlawful to supply & sell copyright programme content & in Spain have been raids to shut such operators, stopping what is effectively 'bootleg TV'. https://www.digitaltveurope.com/2019/03/25/spanish-police-shut-down-large-scale-pirate-streaming-operation/

Users should get better quality with your own system and a direct connection with good internet & HDMI video chip in a decent computer. (You really need a minimum internet speed of 40 Mbps the higher the better)  You don't need a 'Smart TV', just one with the HDMI digital input which can connect to the computer device. (Firesticks are OK and plug direct into to the HDMI input, but not as good as running a decent computer)

Homespot offer the best non cabled internet working on 4G so they send you a router out which you plug into any power socket and you are good to go... Costs € 39.99 but it's fast and watch all you want through the internet. Connect any other devices and they will all work. If you move take the unit with you.. It's the size of an A4 paper and about 4cms thick. Hope this helps Mike... 919 700 700 (Homespot tel)

Does the 39.99 euro a month include UK TV channels?
