Hi thanks for letting us join your forum. We have so many questions. We want so much to move to spain. We aren't at retirement age yet but would like to sell up and move over in the next couple of years and live off our 'small' savings until we reach retirement age. Does anyone know, If we ended up getting part time work in Spain would it affect our state pension? We hope to buy either a caravan or small property outright so it's just about day to day living. Thank you for any help/advice 😊

As far as I am aware it would not affect your state pension from UK.  Do research though the various legalities involved especially Residencia which requires you to be able to live here without Spanish state help/benefits.  The requirements are quite steep and could be affected by Brexit.  Better to check this all out before committing to a property.

We moved here in late June and it's not been without its challenges.  But it is about mind set and being prepared for things to move slowly sometimes, for the bureaucracy to be frustrating and not "joined up".  It is different here and it does take time to adapt even if you really want to do it.  Make sure you get out and about too and meet people so you have friends who've done it/are doing it too...they can be a real help in the early days especially.  We're beginning to feel really settled and are enjoying ourselves a lot. Good luck and don't listen to some of the negativity...Spain is not perfect but neither was the UK.

Thanks for your reply.  We are really hoping to be able to move out there, probably Almeria area.  We are going to the 'A Place in the Sun exhibition' in March in Manchester where there are various seminars about moving abroad and lots of people you can ask questions as well.  Maybe that will help make things a bit more clear.

We're keeping our eyes on what changes will follow Brexit and hope it won't mean we can't do this.

Well done you for getting there, hope all goes well for you.

Thanks

Bear in mind if you buy a caravan, the ground rent on the parks can be nearly as much as renting a flat/house.
