Hi as a relative newbe to this area we are alarmed at the squatters scenario.

We were naive in opening our  door in a private gated community to a woman claiming to offer alarm security services.

She must have watched us enter by car then follow on foot to our door.

Sure she left but was she checking out the place ?

Is this not more of a problem in the cities and on the coast ? or has my dog potentially got to rip a squatters head off to regain our property.

I am sure the police will not turn a blind eye to that !!!

Seems not all scumbags are residing in the Uk......

As an oldie all we want is a quiet life in the sun

Seems now as the police offer NO PROTECTION....We  are  reliably informed.

We are left to protect our own by whatever means.

Or are we being paronoid ????

Oh goodness.  We bought our initial property apartment in Costa del Sol in 2006.  We weren't able to visit due to work commitments.  When we finally made it, ALL our whites from kitchen had been stolen!  Fridge/freezer, oven, oven hob, cooker hood, electric boiler in utility, washing machine, dishwasher.  They broke in. We couldn't get in.  They even took all light fittings!  Looked like they were coming back but didn't succeed.  Our water and electric were cut off.  Advice:  check utility bills;  they "lived" in ours for two months, make sure you have an online app as this is a giveaway for you to check usage.  Our Spanish buildings insurance covered us for contents as well! (Which we didn't know).  My hubby replaced and fitted everything but it was traumatic.  There was even a footprint on our coffee table.  Be warned.  These people could not gain access onto our first floor balcony as my husband fitted an extra lock to patio doors.  Next time, report to local police, get a report crime number and contact your insurance company!
