I’m thinking about buying a property in Spain. I’ve thought about villas but think I’d prefer a townhouse in nice southern Spanish town. I’ve seen and read about Competa. It looks really nice and just the right size. Not too big, not too small. Would anybody recommend this town?  I’d welcome any suggestions about other locations as only starting too look. Not knowing any towns it’s difficult! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

"Not knowing any towns it’s difficult!"

I think you need to spend a little time in Southern Spain.

Check out a number of things, 'if in the sticks', like Internet availability to the fact right now if a resident coming from UK 'Brits cannot now swap their driving licence'. Also check what tax you will pay, much higher than UK.

Don't buy with "the sun in your eyes".

Great place but location is important,

Thanks for that. Thinking about a home in the sun for family to use but maybe something I will spend part of the year in when a bit older and no longer working. I don't really like Scottish winters!! Think I'd something in a town rather than villa in the countryside. Spending a big of time in southern Spain is a good idea. Just getting time to do it is difficult. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Peter

Look in and around Frigiliana. It’s absolutely beautiful here, really friendly and much closer to the coast than Competa. I wouldn’t live anywhere else!!

Thanks very much. Open to all suggestions as so many places to look for. Even types of property. So many new and so many older.  I’ll need to get over and have a look around. Thanks again.

Yes - nearer the coast can be much better, the further in land the worst temperature extremes. Inland can get very chilly in winter & much hotter in summer.

Competa is a beautiful village, but you need to check out the whole of the area, and are you also aware about the 90/180 rule for being able to stay in the EU?

Yeah I know you're limited to 90 out of 180 days. That certainly for now is all I would need. I'm going to get over to take a look at a few villages in the area. Like you say I need to check out the whole area. I'm open to all suggestions as not set on anything definite yet. Thanks.

I’d noticed Coin. That’s great. I want to get over and see a few places but will never get as much time as you did. Did you see anywhere else you liked or anywhere you’d avoid!? Thanks for the info. M
