What is the approximate cost for installing air conditioning for a 2 bed villa?
Thanks in anticipation.

Depends on the unit of course. But if you want to hire a company to do it (be useful if the unit breaks you have someone to call out) then you might be looking at 700-1000 euro. Mine is heat/air.

Thank you Kerri, your response in much appreciated.
It will depend on the size of the room and the make of the unit. And as Kerri mentioned - either you get it from the local aircon company or a big store like El Corte Ingles. We did a lot of research and went with the local company Acair who's been in the business for years, hoping, that if something ever goes wrong we can always contact them and have the unit repaired on a warranty. Some of our friends got cheaper units from El Corte, but it was difficult to organize a repair later. Our unit cost us Eur 900 installation and IVA included.
Following is the recent quote I was given for a 2 bed villa by Acair:
"A 2 bedroom apartment would typically need 1 ASG12UiKP and 2 ASG9UiKP. This would be €2897 including installation and IVA."
This was the recent quote given by Econocool air conditioning:
"For a 2 bed villa with a medium sized lounge the cost would be 2150 euros in LG with a 10 year warranty 1950 in Samsung with a 5 year warranty or 1550 in ecold with a 3 year warranty. All machines are the latest inverters. prices include installation."Both quotes are way above "700 - 1000"
I'd be interested for your reaction for which I thank you in anticipation.

I had mine done in 5 rooms and it came to just over 2,000Euros. The units are not that expensive, but having them fitted properly, by an engineer does push the price up. Mine are heat and cool units. Shop around. Mine were fitted by Spanish engineers and work brilliantly.
Thank you Kevin for your reply. Much appreciated.
Are the units difficult to install?

It is more awkward than difficult. There is some plastic pipework to contain the refrigerant as well as the electrical installation wiring between the internal and external units. You need to fit brackets to the inside and outside walls for each unit, usually above your windows or on a blank wall and no more than 4 metres away from each other. The internal units should have a clearance of about 8 inches from walls and ceilings to allow for air flow. The units need to wired to a 30 amp fuse on your fuse board. If there is no spare fuse, you may need to upgrade it (usually trip switches now). Not difficult to wire up, but do wire them in parallel, not series, as if 1 units has a fault, none of them will work, whereas in parallel, the faulty one will power down, but the others will still operate. Wiring has to sunk into a wall, so buy some trunking (very cheap product to buy)and remember where the wiring is, in case you ever drill a wall. Seen quite a few mishaps. Just plan the sitings of each unit, cost the fuses and electrical wiring, as well as how many units you want. I could not be without it now.

The units I have are Hisense and top of the range. They cost 305 Euros, or thereabouts, depending on supplier and they have been brilliant. Charging around 1400 Euros for fitting is a little high. How many units are you hoping to have?
Many thanks again Kevin for your detailed instructions. However, they are a little too complexed for me to consider diy!
