Has anyone that has done the drive from U.K. to Spain with their dog have any top tips?

Euro tunnel to Calais and then stopped at dog friendly places? Any recommendations greatly received.

Anyone taken own car through tunnel and then parked it and hired a left hand 🚙? I’m a bit scared to drive UK car all the way to Spain. Quite happy to drive a left hand one.

No dog friendly cabins left on ferry to Santander so it’s going to have to be a drive through France.

Anyone ever flown their dog? Private ✈️hire is ££££ but I won’t put my dog in the hold just for a holiday.

Or, has anyone used a pet courier service (I’d only be interested if I could accompany my dog)?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Hi Noah, sorry cannot offer any dog advice however:

We have driven from Calais, to CdS Velez Malaga, its a long way with quite a cost attached, we did it with two hotel stops, 450-500 miles a day, with a dog you might not want such long days & have more stops?  Unless your holiday is for several weeks/months I suggest that you seriously investigate flying. Or consider a ferry to Bilbao/Santander

If you must drive, I wouldn't be concerned about driving down in your RHD car, traffic in France / Spain is generally less busy than UK & well disciplined. Cost of hiring would significantly add to your cost, making flying or driving your own car more attractive.

Hi Noah

I have travelled down to Nerja with my dog several times. The first time, I got a lift to Paris Airport, through the tunnel. Then flew with my dog in the cabin (she is small!), with AirFrance (€50) to Malaga Airport. Then hired a car. All very straightforward.

I have also taken the Ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao, overnight in a dog friendly cabin. Then travelled down from there via a stop off outside Madrid.

Also have taken the tunnel to Calais, stopped at Le Mans and the Burgos, in dog friendly hotels. All manageable in 3 days.

None of the above were very expensive if you pick your times!

Hope that was helpful.

Hi Barbara, for better chance of response, probably best to start a new post, rather than adding to one about dogs

Otherwise, sorry cannot help with your query
