Best location to live in competa

Hi
My wife and I are new to this forum and this is our first post. We are currently looking at properties for sale in Competa and there are so many for sale I have read somewhere that the ‘old town’is the more desirable location and would appreciate any views on this
We currently live in South west france and are looking for a town house or at least, a property within walking distance to amenities.
Any guidance at all on anything relatwd to the above would be welcomed
