We are Richard and Julie Kenna, we have just bought a property in Alhaurín el Grande and hope to move in by the 1st week of June.

We are retiring early at 58 & 55 years old.  My husband Rich loves music and socialising whereas I enjoy painting and looking after our two beloved dogs Holly & Rosa.

We are busy trying to learn a little Spanish ready for the move and although excited are incredibly daunted and nervous about starting our new life.

Any hints and tips about how to join groups, begin socialising and making friends in the area would be extremely welcome.

Looking forward to being your new neighbours

Julie and Rich Kenna xxx

Welcome! I can't help really as I don't live in your new area but don't be daunted, you are about to start a new and fantastic period of your life. Love and embrace every second of it. Be open minded, you'll have a ball!

Good luck!

Hi and welcome don't be daunted super friendly place to live and quite a few expats in Alhaurin el Grande, we live between Alhaurin el Grande and Alhaurin de la Torre in the campo behind Lauro Golf Club not sure if you will know where that is yet.... There is a great cafe called Stars Estudio (they have a Facebook page with timetables) run by a lovely lady called Inez you can attend hourly Spanish group lessons there for €5 each we go to a private class the teacher Emma is very good and does work as a translater too she can also help with getting your residencia/driving licence etc. as well.  There is also exercise classes running and sometimes arts and crafts things too great place to go to meet other expats.  We are living our dream here  and would be happy to meet up with you once you have arrived.    My husband Mike and I are both 60 took early retirement like yourselves and made the permanent move last year although owned our house since August 2017.  Good luck and please feel free to private message me through this site if you want to get in touch or if I can be of any further help.

Hi Julie and Rich.  Great news, you will love alhaurin as there's always something going on! We retired early last June and moved to torremolinos.   We've just bought a house between Alhaurin and Coin and will be moving there in April.  Love the laid back lifestyle here and the climate.   Would be good to meet up when you're settled.  Let me know if you need any help.  Teresa and Julian.

How totally wonderful to hear from you and your post is so helpful - thank you.

That would be wonderful - we are hoping to integrate and become part of the community - we look forward very much to making your acquaintance when we arrive in June.
