Thanks! very useful. I had wondered about using the P60 but I'll check if they are happy with the payslips this week and update.

Hi all

Just to wrap up this thread, hopefully. I contacted Sabadell again this morning. I spoke to a different person who asked for evidence of my NIE certificate, which had not been mentioned before. Anyway I have uploaded this so hopefully that's all they need. To recap, I have provided a previous pension payslip, some evidence of how I transfer money from the UK (bank info) and the NIE. Fingers crossed!!

Regards

Mike

Hi Ian

As usual it probably depends who you actually get to speak to 🙄😊.

The Bank will be checking your proof of income to the activity on your bank account. They may also request confirmation of large credit transactions, it’s all to do with money laundering. You will need to send proof and the relevant documents they require as if you don’t they will close your account. This happens in the UK also. I would definitely speak to the bank to check it is a genuine request from them.

I hope this helps and you get it sorted.

Hi

Have any non residents received a request from their bank (in my case Sabadell) for proof of "professional activity". I presume this is to do with money laundering safeguards but I have been with them for about five years and can't recall receiving this kind of request before. I am thinking of ri...

...nging to check this out but thought I would enquire on this forum first for any more background. The request came via my account on their website rather than an individual email.

"The documents accepted as proof of your professional activity are, among others:

- recent pay slip, employment contract, recent form 037 (registration of activity), informe de vida laboral (work history report), enrolment certificates (for students), and pension, benefit or unemployment certificates, or the equivalent document in your country of tax residence. For the self-employed, VAT and personal income tax returns are accepted."

If I have to send something it will have to be pension related as I am retired but I am not clear what they mean by pension  certificate, other than a payslip.

The bank says that if it is not forthcoming within a set deadline they will shut down my account after 90 days of the original letter.

Any thoughts, comments from residents and non residents would be welcome.

Thanks

Yes I have done end of last year and a few years ago. Needs to be dine or they freeze your account and stop any oayments

I’ve been with Sabadell for 9 years

I understand that if you have other facilities with them the quarterly fee will reduce

If I was a resident and had the time to ensure that my Direct Debits were migrated without a hitch then I’d probably go with a neo-bank. First choice is probably the Berlin based N26 (they have a Spanish IBAN and quality consumer feedback)

As it is I use Wise for any/all non-Direct Debit spending when I’m in Spain. I put GBP on Wise and use it to buy EUR when the FX rate is ok. The EUR’s are either sent to Sabadell direct and/or retained for day to day expenses

All the best

Like you I have a Wise account. I set up all my Spanish DDs with Wise and closed my Sabadell account.

When I was with Sabadell I transferred my money from my UK Banks, so Sabadell knew where my money was coming from.
I don't see it as any business of Sabadell where the money paid into my UK bank comes from! That's for my UK bank to check.

If I was paying lots of cash into my Sabadell account fair enough.

Luckily I closed my Sabadell account once they told me they were going to start charging me 240 euro a year for the privilege of having an account with them and using it to pay a handful of DDs. So I haven't had to get involved with this latest Sabadell missive.

I opened a wise account, set up all my Spanish DDs with Wise, transferred any remaining euros from Sabadell to Wise and closed my Sabadell account.

I'm glad I did this as I was finding Sabadell harder and harder to interact with and Sabadell wanting to charge me for having an account was the final straw!

Hi

Thanks for this. I've been considering other options due to the bank fees. Did you have any push back from  the Spanish utility companies re. set up of DD's through Wise?

Also, as an aside how do you process your non resident tax form each year? I send mine through Sabadell at the bank counter.

Regards

Mike
