Hello

My wife and I will be travelling to Spain this coming Christmas we will be staying in Mijas Pueblo. We have visited Spain many times of the last decade.

We have seen a number of properties in Yunquera for sale. If they are still for available while on our visit we will be viewing and making a purchase and relocating to Spain.

My question is what is it like living in Yunquera. any feedback would be great.

Hi there are so many factors you need to take into consideration  when relocating and purchasing a property. It would be a good idea if you could rent first and get a feel for the area and local amenities are always good to have. Research the area in any event.

Why don't you have a look and see if there is a chat on Yunquerra on line.

Good luck

This may sound daft. But how do I do that?

Hi Paul,  I live in a smaller White Village so I can only speak generally.  My situation here is quite unique but life in these Villages I would expect are somewhat similar.  These are just my experiences so hopefully no one knocks me over for them!!  LOL

1.  They are very Spanish so you have to work at fitting in.  The people who live in them are friendly but they are tight family oriented communities and you are the foreigner.

2. If you prefer alot of Expats best to be closer to the Coast.

3. This is a great life for those who want to enjoy nature in every sense.   Be on the lookout however for caged dogs used for hunting.  They bark all night long.

4. The Village you mention is larger than mine but regardless I can find everything to live here but we foreigners are used to more options so a trip to the supermarket will be needed from time to time.  Make sure its not too far for you to go.

5. Most towns seem to run Spanish classes.  If this is a goal then check that situation out.  There you will meet more foreigners too.

I think it comes down to what you want.  I couldn't bear to live in one of these modern apartments on a golf course full of holidaymakers.  I like living in the mountains but i am only 20 minutes drive from the Coast so I believe I have the best of both worlds.[Not to mention great neighbours of all nationalities.]

I agree with Jan in one regard (about renting) but I bought and moved right in and I made it work.  Perhaps I was just lucky but because it was my home I needed to make it all work out and it did.  If I had just rented then I would not have put my heart into it.  So maybe you can find a compromise.  Rent an Air BnB type of place for a couple of weeks - I am sure there will be something there.  Good luck.  Living in Spain is lovely.
