Hola Mi Amigos

I am thinking of getting a smart TV nothing to big maybe 32" for my holiday home in VELEZ MALAGA,my house has a satellite dish

'medium size" (that's all) do I need some sort of Digi Box to pick up TV Signals for UK channels, Do I need an Internet provider?

I have read so many different things about getting TV and getting UK channels I am at my wits end now, and wondering is it worth me getting a TV without all the additional costs.

Can someone give me any advise on setting up a smart tv so I can get UK channels as well as Spanish Channels.

I am going to my house on SEPTEMBER 15TH TO 24TH so need some advise rather quickly.

Many Thanks

Velezboy62 (Steve)

You need internet yes, not much on Sat now in English, just a few channels free to air like Sky News. With internet you can use a basic TV with an Amazon fire stick 'plugged into an HDMI socket,' you then need a VPN which hides your Spanish. location.  https://www.expressvpn.com/support/vpn-setup/setup-amazon-fire-stick-fire-tv/

You could use your 'phone' or a tablet (that takes a phone sim card) with internet, if you have a package with 'unlimited roaming', https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mobiles/cheap-roaming-calls/ That can also have a VPN installed.

As you are here such a short time, phone or tablet might be the best solution, you can then run things like iPlayer and set up UK., with a VPN you can get BBC ITV and Channel Four outside the UK. 'You could set up before you leave'.

Your phone might be the simplest with VPN Application, you can also connect that to a TV.

Hi

What I do is take PlayStation or xbox with all uk channels downloaded on it (sky, itv hub, BBC hub etc) then connect to my phone using WiFi . Be carefull the tv will use one gb an hour (dont use hd )and unfortunately know you get charged £2 a day by your network provider (since brexit) which your going to get charged anyway, my provider is sky so I can' use my data from sky piggybank. This is a short term answer depending  how much time your going to spend in velez, but it beats having to subscribe to a Internet company for a year.

Check with your provider how many gb you can use internationaly.

Even if you pay for the Internet in spain still take the playstion or xbox and your get all uk tv channels free

Hope this is a little help

Good luck

Hi Rick.

Thanks for your kind reply, unfortunately I don't have a playstation or xbox to try this, I have been looking at free to air digiboxes which I could connect to my satellite dish, which gives you aprox 150 channels, I have also read a sky Digi Box without a card will pick up lots of channels maybe depending on the size of the satellite dish, my dish is standard so not sure.

Thanks Rick

Warm Regards

Hola David.

Hope you are well, thanks for your kind reply, I have seen a few internet providers for Axarquia Region  and after an initial set up payment you can subscribe to weekly, monthly or yearly.

Maybe that is my best option.

Thanks David

A freesat box will brings in some stations Sky News CNN Bloomberg and free to air other channels via Astra. 'BBC ITV FOUR now on a spot beam on UK only, you can also get SKY Sports with decoder and card. Most web sites now are well out of date. The dish needs to be bigger than norm about 1 metre and must be pointed in the right direction 28 degrees south. Your dish presant could be pointing at the wrong satellite. If the last occupant was Spanish. If correct a box will tune in what's there. https://rxtvinfo.com/television-and-radio-services-for-uk

Hi

Just one suggestion if your taking a British TV with you, a smart TV already has bbc hub, itv hub, amazon etc already installed you can hotspot that to your phone as well.

Good luck.

Re roaming charge....Smarty (uses 3 or EE network) and Lebara (uses Vodafone network) are both offering cheap deals including European roaming. I've been Vodafone for years but I enquired and I'm told, any contract after August 2021 does not include roaming, so if I renew my contract, I lose roaming! I think I'll be moving to another!
