From 04.00am on Tuesday 7 December, all travellers to the UK aged 12 and over need to provide proof of a negative PCR or 'lateral flow' test pre-departure test taken in the 48 hours before they travel, regardless of vaccination status.

They provide a rapid test service in the airport,, if you want local rapid test ask at you local pharmacy.

BTW Don't forget you need to book a PCR second day test in England before you leave Spain.

You don't need a PCR test - you can have an antigen test i.e. Lateral Flow (which is much cheaper) from a recognised medical centre.

You then have to have a PCR test within 2 days after arriving in the UK.

We flew back from Spain to the UK yesterday and it all worked fine with a lateral flow test

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england

Type of test

The test must meet performance standards of ≥97% specificity, ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.

This could include tests such as:

  • a nucleic acid test, including a PCR test
  • a LAMP test
  • an antigen test, such as an LFD (lateral flow device) test

You must check with your test provider that the test meets the standards. You may not be able to travel if it does not.
