Hi Rega,

I have been learning Spanish for just over 6 months and have wondered the same thing - is there a conversation group? I haven't heard of one in Torrox and as I am not based in Spain  I decided to take my Spanish conversation in the form of a Zoom tutorial with a Spanish Language teacher . The lesson is a stilted Spanish conversation punctuated by lesson content and homework correction. It is really an enjoyable lesson/chat in a protected environment and suits me. It is more expensive but maybe something to consider if you wish to have more 1:1 Spanish. It is also a good reality check on what is involved in learning a new language. My son who is his 20s has made great strides just using DuoLingo and I understand that has a chat feature on it too (which I have never used). If you are based in Torrox you will have opportunities to speak in shops and to neighbours - I have only been a couple times but have been stopped in the street to have a conversation!

I would keep on with regular formal lessons and realise that it does take time to become proficient according to age and the time and effort you expend. At times it seems as if you are going backwards but group class lessons are considerably slower than 1:1!

If I were permanently in Spain I would be using every opportunity to speak Spanish in shops, restaurants and chat with neighbours and use the formal lessons to provide some structure to your learning. When they are not busy some of the shopkeepers will have a bit of a chat.

Many Thanks for your time in replying. I have so far only been offered online conversation.

Whereas i know this is successful for some people, it is not what i think the best route for me to take. I know there are a few options of this service in Nerja but i am still hopeful of finding someone in Torrox Costa area…… Please respond if applicable.

With respect to the person who does not live here….. of course, i try to converse with shopkeepers, waiters etc. but trust me, it is not enough and certainly does not give confidence with trying to speak Spanish.

I look forward to hearing from someone who has may offer this service and have space for another student.

This is informative of your needs.

However if you need to narrow yourself to this location.

Then the options are limited.

I have been learning Spanish for almost 5 years now...

My suggestion may be that you swap your English for some Spanish.

Or please use the resources as suggested above.

They are just up the road.

Olivia may be able to help you further.

In any case I wish you well.

Andy

Hi if you could make it to Torre de Mar there are several groups Tuesdays Wednesdays and Fridays for conversation. Anyone is welcome.
