We took a PCR as we wanted to be certain to get on the Flight, but I think they accept Antigen now, check to be sure with your airline, things are changing daily.

Thanks again, they sure keep us jumping through hoops, when we thought the vaccine would free us!

Thanks for this. Eurofin sounds great! I believe an antigen is sufficient for entry to the UK, but if you found different please tell!

None of this sounds 'Great'.

Covid-19 testing has become a multi-million pound/euro rip-off.

Lateral flow antigen tests take 5 minutes and the cost in the UK has reduced to £25 but the actual cost of the test is only about £1.

The requirement to have 3 such tests for people who have been double vaccinated is difficult to fathom when, for more than 1 year, the government has allowed thousands of people from Brazil, China and India and other SARS-CoV-2 hotspots to travel to the UK without being tested.

The airlines should offer the testing at the airport, at actual cost, instead of trying to make a profit from this. A test result 3 days prior to flight does not prove that you are not infected at the time of flight.

Testing at the airport would be more reliable, with automatic rebooking onto another flight without penalty if positive and sensible prices for testing would get passenger numbers back to normal much more quickly.

Hello, You can just have the antigen / lateral flow test, that is it acceptable for returning to the U.K.  it costs 24 euros at Malaga Airport, I had one before flying back on 11th June and just had to show the negative result at check in before boarding the plane,

Which test did you book for Day 2 and Day 8 in the UK, with which provider and what was the cost? Did you have to prove that booking and/or purchase to board the flight to the UK?

Some local authorities are offering free testing, however, I am not sure whether booking this would qualify and/or why it should not?

...

I used randox you can have them 1/2 price with Ryanair and EasyJet for £120 (£60 each)

You need to add your day 2&8 booking ref to your travel locator form or you won’t be allowed to fly out of Malaga

I’m on day 7 of quarantine

I have been called 4 times and also been told I have been in contact with someone who had COVID on the flight

How this happened I don’t know if we all have to have negative tests to leave spain

Then to top of off because I have been in contact with someone I can now have a free test after paying £120. I told them my day 2 test was negative and I expect my day 8 to be negative as well. They contacted me 5 days after my return to say someone on my flight had tested positive

be glad when this is all over

I was flying back to Scotland so I had no choice but to book the tests through the Scottish Goernment website and both tests cost £170 .... a rip off, if you are flying into England you can choose which provider to buy the tests from and I believe some are around £100 / £120, you need to have proof that you have booked and paid for these tests before returning to the U.K. , When I arrived back in the U.K. Border Control also asked to see proof that I had a negative covid test as well as proof that I had booked and paid for the 2 PCR tests for days 2 and 8,

Hi Jo

Very interesting!

The testing is not 100% reliable, for 2 reasons, which means that someone with Covid-19 will board most flights.

First, a test up to 72 hours is permitted. After that test, that person may have had contact with 101 people, in hotels, restaurants, bars and, of course, the airport and may have become infected following the testing. Testing should be done at the airport immediately before going through security.

Secondly, the antigen tests are, at best, 80% accurate and, at worst, less than 60% accurate! According to a report in the British Medical Journal, published on 4 February 2021, accuracy varies between 79.2%, when administered by trained laboratory scientists and just 57.5%, when administered by Boots track and trace centre staff! This was in a full Public Health England evaluation. The BMJ report said that, in the real world (Liverpool) as many as 60% of people who were infected, but without symptoms, went undetected.

By the way, the lateral flow antigen test kits cost about £3 each . . . . so £22 at the airport seems to be where the airlines are picking up the lost profits. I can book a flight from Malaga to London for €8.99, with Ryanair, but then there is another £142 on top for the Covid-19 tests.

The good news is that, if you have 'contact' (not defined but probably does not include mouth to mouth mmixing of saliva) with someone with Covid19 who does not have symptoms then only 6 out of 100 victims will catch the virus. So, transmissibility is surprisingly low and you will be very unlucky to have got infected.

Hi, we will be flying back to Belfast from Malaga and per the nidirect website it states:

"The test must:

  • meet performance standards of greater than or equal to 97 per cent specificity, greater than or equal to 80 per cent sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml
  • this could include tests such as:
    • a nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests
    • an antigen test, such as a test from a lateral flow device"
Can we get the lateral flow test and results just before our flight or is this something that is done in advance? If we can get it done just before our flight, can you let me know if i can book in advance?
Thanks
