I wonder whether any body has encountered a similar situation

I came over to Spain and took out House insurance and car insurance with Liberty seguras (the car insurance was later but entitled me to a deal)I had a 7 year ncd from uk but had an accident in the first year here My house insurance was due in august 22 and paid and my car insurance is due in November so surprise when I receive this from my broker

"Liberty have informed me that they will not be renewing your vehicle policy when due on 04 November.

This is due to the claim and that it was in the first year of the policy.

The insurers in Spain do have the right to do this and it is not just Liberty, across the board."

So liberty have not explained or quoted higher premium just decided to not renew after collecting the house insurance premium !!

any comments ??

You had an annual insurance contract with the Insurer, who are under no obligation to offer a renewal of that contract.

I would ask your broker to re-confirm the reason for non renewal (Insurer doesn't have to tell you)

Your claim, might be the brokers own interpretation, but could be any number of reasons, e.g. insurer withdrawn from insuring your postcode/age/type of vehicle/licence type etc etc.

Important to know the reason, so you can inform future insurers

I would highly recommend Linea Directa. I’ve been with them for 3 years now and no problems.

I suggested speak to these people as the biggest broker for Brits on the coast and might have some suggestions, they are very helpful and knowledgeable.

David, I was thinking of changing to them last year. They quoted me a slightly lower price and I accepted. This was a couple of months before my insurance was due for renewal. I asked if I should phone them nearer the time. He told me there was no need. He had all of the details and would contact me. Never heard from him again, so based on that I couldn’t recommend them

How do Liberty get away with it. I had 2 cars, a boat and a villa insured with them for a number of years with no claims. I then experienced a power surge in the Endesa supply  damaging several air conditioning units and domestic appliances. I filed an insurance claim and then my problems started. They did not cover this they did not covered that. My claim was submitted for 7281 euros and Liberty made an offer which was rejected by me. The offers slowly increased in value eventually reaching  6348. This still did not meet the claim but the whole process left me feeling I was dealing with an eastern bazaar and not a reputable insurance company.  In frustration I accepted the offer and changed my insurance company.

Sorry to hear this, I have been with them since 2016 with 2 cars and house insurance and had no problems.

I deal through their agent Brian Berney at

https://expatinsurespain.com/

I had 2 accidents and they handled both very well.
