Having had no electric in my apartment for 2 months due to no electric meter ( presumably pulled out by endessa due to unpaid bills of previous owner, can anyone tell me how to get this. I left it with the agent but still have nothing and think I will need to contact them but I don't speak Spanish.

Has anyone got over this problem in the past and how long does it take?

Desperate to come out to stay but can't until we get it. So I'm paying all taxes, community fees etc. But have a useless apartment in Calahonda.

Helpful advise please

Thank you

Jan

Hi

I assume you would have used a solicitor to deal with the property buying. If you ask them they should be able to  arrange for the electricity to be reconnected.

When we bought our property we retained the solicitors as our Fiscal representatives so they deal with  all our taxes for us and they were very helpful when we had needed to check that our utilities were set up in our name. They phoned for us and asked and told us all was set up by direct debit. It could be worth trying them first as they were paid to do your conveyance..

The other option is to ask your Estate Agent, if you used one, to phone up for you to arrange the reconnection. You will be charged a one off fee by whichever utility company you choose, which from what I hear is quite expensive but all companies will charge this. If you set up a direct debit at the same time it will save the worry that all the bills will be paid on time. A good idea if you have the property as a holiday home as an unpaid bill can get the utility cut off . They are not as forgiving or patient as the UK utility companies . They tend to cut off  as a first resort, so keeping bills paid is extra important.

Most Spanish utility companies have a website and you can ask questions by email on there in English usually and set up online access to see your bills once the property is connected.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply Jan.

We are doing this through the agent, but because the previous owner did not pay, endessa removed the meter. Also because we have no bill it has been difficult to get them to understand where the apartments are in Riviera and so we are starting the process again ( whatever process that is, I'm not sure)

If we don't get it soon I will plead with the lawyer who we told not to bother with the electrics charges on the conveyancing because the agent said they would get it quicker! Well you learn by your mistakes. I do hope we get it by April when I retire or our plan to spend a lot of time in Spain will be put on hold and I will be cancelling flights , cancelling plumbers and cancelling air con installation.

So frustrating but I have to assume it will happen.

I think I've done everything else IBI set up community charge set up direct debits etc.

Apparantly I will need t do a tax return for 12 days of December as we completed on 19th so that will be another 200 euros for a nil return !

Sorry sounds negative ! We are really looking forward to a new life, meet people and have a social life I have not had for years! And the sun of course.

Regards

Andrew
