Driving license requirements for hiring a car

Just a heads up to anyone holding a uk full driving license.Hired a car through Do You Spain, rental company called Del Paso rent a car Malaga Airport.arrived on 12/6/21,went to pick up hire car only to be told that i could not hire the car with a uk driving license i had to have the international driving license (cost £5.50 in UK)as well. I have my own yearly car insurance excess policy . Was then told that if i purchased their excess insurance policy at a cost of 270euro i would be able to hire the car.

Do You Spain were very helpful and got me a car at another hire car company but they said that more and more hire car companies are doing this. Be Warned !!

You do NOT need an International Driving Permit (IDP) to drive for up to 6 months in Spain. This is another example of hire companies not knowing the rules.
