Hello.

We are in the process of finding an area in Spain to move to next year and we saw this area on A place in the sun yesterday. We were blown away with the views and the town.

We are both in our 50's and semi retired. My husband is into golf and I'm just a dabbler in most things. But we would love to know if Periana would be a great place for us to move to and would we find a busy community?

Thanks for your help. Looking forward to hearing from you

Kind regards

Carolle and Gavin Robinson

I'm sure might be a good location, but check the facts before you move with great care, much of the information 'A Place In The Sun' is out of date, Spain is a third country post Brexit. You need to check taxes on income, which includes pensions and the real costs, look at things like taking a new 'driving test' and health insurance. Good luck but don't plan a move with the 'sun in your eyes'.

Link below might explains things for a 'non lucrative visa', but take note, the proof of funds or income is for a Visa 'which is renewable', it's not 'permanent residence', for this another ball game. https://www.expatica.com/es/moving/visas/spain-permanent-residence-163501/

The NLV will not allow you to stay in Spain for more than one year after entering Spain, you need the long term income required or the level of cash each year, this allows you to reside for longer than 90 days, it will expire. 'lasts for just one year only'. It has to be renewed in 12 months then you will have to meet the criteria again, hence if want to stay any length of time you need permanent income, or enough savings to renew each year. (Brexit has made things tough) Also 'Brits can no longer swap their drivers licence' and those who took residence here from 31st Dec 2020 can no longer drive, unless you take a new driving test. Only EU citizens and a few others countries can swap. Tourists are OK but once you reside or get a 'Padron', which you will need, you are prohibited from driving. 'It is obligatory for anyone staying in Spain for more than six months to obtain a Padron' https://www.spanishsolutions.net/case-studies/case-study-what-is-a-padron-in-spain/
