Is it often very windy in Nerja?

We are Canadians who love Nerja and we are interested in spending our winters here. This month there have been terrible winds. Is this typical? How windy does Nerja get? We have heard that March is a very windy month sometimes. My wife has wind-related health problems, so your feedback would really help us decide on our winter destination.
