Hi Audrey

I’m going to spend 6 months in Nerja from October. I’ll be near Burriana beach which is a lovely area and handy for shops,  the centre and bus station too. If you don’t mind s bit of a hill Capistrano urbanisation is popular over the winter months.

Good luck and do let me know if you get over to Nerja this winter.

Dee

Thanks Dee,

It won't be this year ie before christmas but we are looking to get over either early next year or the  later months Oct Nov Dec just trying to do as much research as I possible can... Burriana is somewhere we had looked at. Capristrano Play is fab but might be too hilly for me..>Broke my ankle a few years back and stairs can be a problem at times...if they have lifts no problem but I can't figure out if it does have some or not

Thanks for the reply and Good Luck for  your stay ....WISH I WAS THERE!! LOL

The nearer to the centre you can be the better. Lots of plus points to being in the centre of town: Atmosphere of the town is wonderful, near to bars and restaurants to stroll and soak up ambience, excellent when there are celebrations you are in the heart of it, easier for supermarket shopping and access to small shops - bakery etc., Also lovely to be near to the Balcon de Europe for strolling, to enjoy the buskers - some really talented musicians play at the Balcon & in the square outside of the Church. You get to see all of the Church weddings which are usually in great style, so fashion watching is great !! Being in the centre you get to enjoy the very essence of this town that is the ‘jewel in the crown ‘ of the Costa del Sol. ENJOY

Hi Audrey

I am coming out to Nerja at the end of February to arrange a winter let for later in the year  . You state you are planning to stay for 6 months does that mean you are planning to apply for residency since you are over the 90 days legally permitted with your British Passport ? .... I am assuming that you are British , I am just trying ascertain the legal position cause this will determin my length of stay

Regards

Dougie

Hi Dougie,

When I get to stay for the six months it will be Oct - Dec one year and then Jan - mar the following year so the three month thing will be ok

I am Irish so I am not sure where we stand as I have not actually looked, silly of me..I assumed I could just go and stay for six months if I wante...looks like I will have to start looking at things properly

Hi Audrey

Thanks for reply I am planning to rent from Oct to Dec, but my understanding of the current rules are that you can only stay 90 days in any 180 days period . If you plan to stay more than 90 days you have to apply for residency

It is all to do with Schengen Countries if you google Schengen Calculater and insert your dates you plan to visit it informs you of the amount of days you have stayed during your visits within a 180 day period

Also there is a transition period to apply for residency up to December 2020 but this would not apply to your goodself as you are Irish and will still be part of the EU but still think the same rules will apply just that after December 2020 there will be different rules for non Europeans

Hopfully you are successful in finding a suitable rental property for your preferred period of time which meets the legal requirements for EU citizens
