Hello,

This is my first time posting here and I am actually not someone seeking residency in Nerja. I am currently studying geography at Royal Holloway University in London and I am looking for help with my coursework. My area of focus is Nerja and I am exploring the identity of Nerja as a British expat community. Unfortunately because of Covid, we were not able to go in person and all our research has been done online. I was hoping that I could get in contact with a few current residents who could answer some questions for me. All help will be much appreciated and there is no limit to how many people respond.

I will post the questions here and if anyone wants to message me further you can send me a private message and I shall pass you my email or even better maybe a phone call to gather more information.

1. What attracted you to the Nerja compared to other places in the Costa del Sol?

2. Do you speak Spanish? If yes, did you learn Spanish before or after going there?

3 Do you interact with the Spanish residents of Nerja often?

4. Is there a language barrier between you and Spanish residents?

5. Is Nerjas history celebrated much in the area or has it been eroded because of tourism? (for example, are the beaches the main attraction?)

6. Would you recognise Nerja as mainly British or is there a lot of Spanish residents there still?

7. Does the town accommodate to British residents well? (For example, is there a lot of restaurants with British dishes?

As mentioned, please feel free to privately message to help out further as all help is welcome!

Thank you all for your time.

When I have the time I could reply to your questionnaire.  We have an apartment in Nerja which belonged to my - permanent resident  - brother and which is now, after his death,  our family's second home.  Over the past 15 years we've become quite familiar with the town and its character/environment and I have immersed myself in local history (which might not be relevant to your research?)  As we're not permanent residents, would we be of any help?  MY brother was an invaluable source of info and anecdotes before he died informing me of the upsides and downsides of Nerja culture.  He nevertheless LOVED the town, its people and its weather.

Thank you so much for replying. Any info is welcome and background information is even more helpful. If easier for you, you could send your response to my private email - [email protected]

Thank you again, Nicola!
