I’m a 71 year old woman with no ties, I’m applying for a non lucrative visa.

Am I too old, my children are all grown and have lives of their own. Living in Spain has always been a dream. I would love to hear from anyone who has done this later in life.

Good Evening

NB. Here is a very  informative website(recommended reading) . Visa is renewable every two years until your  year 5  when you can apply for permanent Residence.

Wishing you all the best in your endeavour. Nothing is easy in Spain  anymore now UK has left the EU. Lots of bureaucracy and hoops to jump through.Look at the debacle with UK Drivers Licences. No agreement yet but maybe soon. With NLC you have 6 months to change over from a UK to Spanish Licence.

If, first of all, you are ok with the conditions for the NLV, I would recommend a <90 day visit to your chosen location. Look at a longer-term rental from September (better rates) and see how you like it.

How well you settle in depends on what you like to do with your time in the UK, and/or how adaptable to change you are. Learning some basic Spanish would be a good start; and make sure your EHIC/GHIC, or travel insurance, is valid for the duration of your stay.

In my experience, people are friendly here and your age is not a handicap. Best wishes with your plans.

I don't think you are too old, but now not longer in EU it's not easy, take a 90 rental holiday first and get advise on tax as you become a fiscal resident.

You're never too 'old' for anything ! Maturity is a bonus in many facets of life. Let us know how you get on. I'm in Ireland, 71, with the same thoughts about moving to the sunshine. Best wishes 👌✌️

I moved to Nerja aged 70. I'm 73 now and my family still live in the UK, but I don't regret it for a moment.

Hi Lea

My name is jean I’m 72 my dream is the same as yours and I’m looking to go over to mijas golf where my friend lives in September .. Nerva is lovely ..

Would love to meet up and have a chat..

My husband isn’t so keen to live in Spain as I am..and I was looking at the non lucrative visa as you can stay longer than the 3 mths ,and after a year you can apply for 2 years etc ..as I don’t want to be back and forwards all the time..

My husband is a bit more reserved wanting to keep a home in the U.K. etc ..

I’d love to have a friend who wants the same as me and you are my age too!
what do you think?

Jean x

Thank you to everyone that’s replied to my post. You have been both encouraging  and helpful.

I’m in the process of applying for my NLV.
