Hi, I got back to fuengirola 8 days ago. After having numerous flights cancelled from Scotland I went to Heathrow and got a flight with Iberia to madrid and then the train to malaga. You'll need to show your nie at immigration and flight details to the train station police.

Hope you get back safe and sound. Weather is brilliant again
You can only come back if you have residency.
Not sure what you mean by NIE, as many people call their residency NIE but you definitely need your actual residency with your address in Nerja on. This has your NIE number on as well.

How can you quote NIE as not knowing then say that you need it? Bit of a confusing response

Hi, its Andy here, I dont know if some of the responses are to me or to other responders, but I will write again. I was stuck in Inverness and had many flights to malaga cancelled. I then looked at flights from heathrow to madrid. This was available so took a flight. All I was asked for at Iberia check in and at Madrid immigration was my Nie, and uk passport of course. I also booked a ticket from madrid to malaga on the train. At the train station the police asked to see my flight ticket, nothing more.

Sorry Andy, I was responding to somebody else. Which airline did you use? I am trying to get my brother in law over and he is not having any joy. He lives in St Helens

No problem,. I booked with Iberia. Then obviously with renfe, but suggest booking with renfe whilst in the uk because, if like me, your flight is changed ie from morning to night flight, you only need to call renfe and change train times. Warning though that we had 2 morning flights cancelled so had to spend the night inside madrid airport and wait for the early train. However take food with you and you can get a coffee at madrid airport. It's a nightmare but will be worth it when you get home. Good luck.

Thanks Andy,
I will take your advice. I was thinking of driving but its an 8 hours return journey. May even look at the trains from other parts of Spain and train stations
