Hello all.

First of all, I want to thank you for this forum.

I am currently in the process of purchasing a property in the Jaen region, and am looking to either buy a car in spain or import one.

Can anyone help with the procedure of buying/owning a car in Spain please? And the best ways to go about either?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards.

Hi there.  I would recommend buying through a garage as they will do all the paperwork for you.  When we bought our car last year, we had to show our padronada, to prove we were registered as padrons at our local town hall (ayuntamiento). The garage registered the car with the equivalent DVLA in Spain.  We have insured our car with linea directa. Our car tax this year was €37 which we paid on line.  We have changed our uk driving licenses for Spanish ones (you have to do this within 6 months if you are living here). We used a paralegal (gestoria) for this.  We had to undergo tests- sight, hearing, blood pressure and coordination tests first which cost €40 each!
