Hi,

I have my heart set on a move to the Malaga area - try for a year and see how it works out first.

I have stayed already for a few months last year and had a great time.

My question is for accommodations and what to expect. I stayed at a resort and had no trouble, however many friends have told me not to go back to Spain because there are far too many home robberies and it’s not worth it.

Is this true and if so how can I try to keep my place from being robbed?

I live in an a Spanish urban area, never had a problem in 25 years, I think a much bigger problem in urbanisations & tourists parts. You can buy very cheap security devices now that connect to you phone via Wi FI, but always best to make the property looked occupied when not there, LED lights cost almost nothing to run, also worth leaving something like a radio on. Thief's look out for empty unoccupied property. (Same UK)

Thank you. That’s great to hear that you’ve had no trouble in 25 years. I’m a single female so always leave a light or radio on just in case. And prefer top floor rentals, so hopefully I’ll be like you and also have no issues. Thanks again 😊

Also, I have had NO issues at any time.  I read about these strange things happening to people on Facebook but have never had any problems.  I do stay alert to my surroundings but that comes generally from being female and I do not live in a very densely packed area but everywhere I have gone around and about has felt safe.  Much safer than the UK actually.

I have lived in England, Vancouver (Canada) and Spain (travelled to many other countries) and I would say generally its the same the world over....  pick your area well and be alert.  There are just alot of struggling people in the world and someone, somewhere will have an issue....just make sure its not you by being alert to your surroundings.

Good luck with your adventure.  :)
