I was struck by a photograph in Reuters of the CRUISE ships being dismantled in Izmir Turkey and the sight cruise ships moored off the coast of Dorset UK as they could not moor at Southampton

I then thought about the airline business and that BA had brought forward the scrapping of their fleet of jumbo jets ,but more unnerved by the article on Air France A380 fleet  as in the link -especially the value of the A380

The facts really strike home when you read the oecd report and the detrimental affect of Covid on the air travel market

You dont have to look very far to see the devastating affect in malaga and its reliance on Cruise ships and tourism generally in the Costa del sol

Sobering thoughts and will it return -well yes but when ,how and in what comparison to pre covid

Thanks for sending along the links!

Personally, although I empathize greatly for people in the industry who are suffering, I believe it was time for a shake up.  All that tourism causing a nightmare in many ways and far too much dependency on it, especially in Countries like Spain.

I also believe that all Countries should take advantage of this downtime from tourism to focus attention on finding a way toward independence from Chinese manufacturing (I am probably dreaming that will happen though!!).

Sometimes bad times are good opportunities for introspection and I can only pray that a reshuffling like this of our overdependence on tourism is an opportunity to seek better ways for our societies to independently prosper and where the term "we are all in this together" begins to mean something.

Totally agree and a positive view on the post Covid situation

In malaga city yesterday. it was good to see the spanish eating out (observing COVID requirements)whereas before the city was becoming too dependnat on Cruise traffic ie the market ,the restaurants etc

The links below show already that the post covid strategy is being examined and a more eco friendly ,sustainable approach

As a firm european (remainer and proud of voting that way !)i think that the UK will miss out on the positve input from being part of europe ie The nordic input on sustainable tourism in link below.

I agree with you about the UK missing out.

I had really hoped they would have dropped the idea after so many years and so much wasted effort/funds.

Reality will sink in when the 90 day/180 wait period hits home.

Best wishes for this new year.  At least we are now more used to riding this tiger!  :)
