Crazy - Spain a county which should have insisted on 'solar panels' on every building many years ago. The one big natural resource is 'the sun'. It beams down most of the time, a complete failure of politicians not to have instigated. February price around 111.5 per cent higher than in the same month last year. .

I'm pleased to see Spain dropped the Sun Tax  https://www.idealista.com/en/news/lifestyle-in-spain/2020/08/04/7761-the-royal-decree-on-self-consumption-of-electricity-relaunches-solar-energy-in

Hi

Considering the climate this does seem to be a strange anomaly that solar tech has not been utilised. Without wanting to generalise, is this an example of the notorious Spanish beaurocracy that I’m becoming aware of that this hasn’t been implemented already?

Are options available to go “off grid” . In the uk there are self-sustaining communities in places like wales which would have been named “hippies” in the past, but im curious are there maybe cultural differences preventing this over there.?  Surely it would give a huge financial saving to people

I think you will find the answers in this link https://www.ecovidahomes.com/blog/can-you-sell-electricity-back-to-the-grid-in-spain/

Up until October 2018, owners had to pay a maintenance fee to the grid for the pleasure of generating their own energy, all power companies in Spain are now obligated to offer customers the possibility of “selling” the electricity that they generate through renewable sources.

Spain should have been encouraging Solar many years ago, instead they went for protectionism for the Utilities, it's tragic, most buildings and apartment blocks could for a large part of the day heat and cool their buildings. How daft can you get, the sun beats down on buildings in summer and they draw power from the grid.  The other day I watched on a phone app the price hit an astonishing 69 cents a unit.   .

You can live in Spain however you want lots of so called hippies and lots of villages where you can live off the grid totally. You will find in some websites all sort of opinions but normally people live in set up places, towns the costas….
