Hi there,

I'm looking to buy a second home in the Costa Del Sol, anywhere between Torremolinos and Calahonda within 30 minutes or so from Malaga airport.  It will used as a holiday apartment, while also being rented out.

Does anyone have any advice on which agent to use, whether to use the agent for everything, or save money by by doing the running around myself and just use the agent for the property purchase?  I'm flying out in April to view apartments.

Any other other advice on the best places to buy, or any other pearls of wisdom you can pass on!

Many thanks,

Stu

Hi,

Idealista.com is a very good hp to find properties. Important is a good lawyer to take care of the paper work when you find the right place. We bought earlier this year, and we can recommend Antonio Zarco 0034/952779600 If you need a mortgage I can recommend the agent bankinspain.com, they are really helpful and doing a very good job. If you accept one of the options they present, you pay a fix fee of € 599,00, which is indeed very competitive to other agents. We bought in Casares Costa between Estepona and Manilva,  and we simply love it there. Any more questions, let me know.

Michael

Hi Stu

We bought an apartment in 2019 in one of the urbanisations just outside La Cala de Mijas. I would recommend taking a look at La Cala, it's only a small town so not built up at all and has a very nice beach. Like you, we were looking for something around 30 mins from Malaga airport so this fitted the bill perfectly.

We used My lawyer in Spain for the legal side and were very happy with their service.

https://www.mylawyerinspain.com/I guess you might also be going to one of the "A Place in the Sun" exhibitions  in the UK. The Manchester event is in March so that ties in nicely for your visit to spain in April. Well worth a visit to the exhibition, covid permitting of course.

For the estate agents we used Edina at Humberts Affinity, again very happy with the service. I would recommend using an agent to get a shortlist and to take you around the properties, you can also do some research yourself and highlight particular properties you are interested in. We ended up viewing twelve properties in one day and shortlisted to three, with a purchase agreed the following day.

At the very least check out two or three agents for comparison purposes.

Also, bear in mind that Spain (or at least on the Costa del Sol) operates a multi listing system which means that a property can be advertised with numerous agents. So, for example, when I put together my own short list of properties from looking at the websites of several estate agents I subsequently found quite a few of them had already been sold, some quite some time ago.

Any agent you go with should be able to set up a viewing for a property that is not on their list.

Happy to provide any further advice just message me privately.

Regards

Mike

That's incredibly helpful Mike thank you.  I may well have questions and the Cala area does sound like what we are looking for. Are there any developments with little or no road noise yiu recommend?
