Hi everybody, I am an expat Brit living in South West France and, as I get older, am looking to spend my winters in warmer climes. I am just looking for some general information on the area, availability of accommodation, cost of living, general living situations from people already in the area.

I am planning on a 2 week visit in August, to explore the area myself and would appreciate some advice on reasonably priced accomodation, preferably B&B or a cheap hotel.

My plan is to find somewhere to stay from mid December to end of March. Will consider anything from a caravan to B&B to reasonably priced hotel. This is a long term plan and hope to do it every winter.

Being someone who survives on a UK State Pension - plus a bit of private income, I would really appreciate any insights from any "Bargain Loving Brits in the sun".

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks in advance.

Chris.

May I suggest Monarque El Rodeo. Very good value and position. I'm pretty sure it closes for the winter though. For the winter why not try San Cristabol. Just around the corner.

                                           Best of luck.    Gerry.

Forgot to mention the hotels are in Marbella Central.

You could look at a static caravan in Alhaurin de la Torre Malaga Monte Parc. A few caravans for rent there. Lovely quiet site in the mountains

Chris,

We did it. We live midway between Toulouse and Carcassone and decided that the winters were too cold. We bought a flat in Fuengirola purely because we live in a house in France that is 12km from the market town, s

o a bit of razzamataz is welcome in the winter.

We spent our first winter in Spain last year and we find Spain to be a cheaper than France. It is easier to get government things done in Spain as there are many reasonably priced "helpers" to do the paperwork. It is our intent to finally live there. Sure, there are a lot of Brits there which is why we originally chose were we are in France but you can avoid them if you wish.

Do it.

I think Fuengirola is a good choice.  Probably better than Marbella in my mind.  Its got everything you need.  Not sure these days but used to have those 2 great markets every week.  Close to the Airport, beaches, etc.  Its a lively place and I am sure you can find nice accommodation probably at a better price than Marbella.   I have not tried to find a place to live there myself but its a great size of town to find alternative lifestyles close to the Airport.
