I  adopted 2 dogs, a few weeks ago, from Marbella, and, duly went to the local vet in Priego de Cordoba to verify the former owners recent microchip change of ownership to myself.

That was confirmed,  followed by a wassapp from the vet, to say the dogs microchip number was not registered in Andalucia.

I replied, to the vet, asking how to register the dogs.

I've wassapped and foned, and cannot elicit any response except that the dogs are not registered in Andalucia. Obviously, they are still registered in Ireland, and had not been registered with a local vet in Marbella at the time the owners arrived in Spain.

What can I do? What are the legal implications of keeping two dogs whose chips are not registered in Spain. Its strange that the vet will not advise me nor answer my calls nor wassapps. My Spanish is reasonably fluent. This is a matter of concern, as its the dogs wellbeing and future which is of importance.

Can anyone advise?

These are the rules. https://www.barcelona-metropolitan.com/living/settling-in/what-you-need-to-know-about-bringing-your-pet-to-spain/

Not sure how the Spanish police them, many stray dogs in particular in the campo and lots of Brits sometimes give them a home, a friend of mine ended up with over 20.

I found another vet, who supplied the RAIA form...Registration Andaluz de Identificacion Animal. Cost 15 euros per dog, plus the vets admin fees...and it takes a week to receive a yeh or neh of acceptance.

The former  and the new owners passport or n.i.e. number , address, dog passports, arrival date, inoculation evidence are required.

Yes..you are right , there are many working farm dogs  and stray dogs in el campo.

But as these two I have are pets, and imported to Spain, I deemed it advisable to ensure they were legally registered, for various reasons.

I hope this is useful information to other readers
