It is simpler for EU citizens to get residency but you still must meet certain criteria as regards income, health insurance, etc. As suggested before it would be a good idea to check with a gestoria or agency to see exactly what you need to bring along to the appointment at the police station. Once you meet the requirements then it's straight forward

It all depends on how long you want to stay. Up to 3 months fine as an EU citizen but for longer we still need to become resident and after six months stay tax residents and all that involves!! I am an EU citizen but as I wanted to stay several years I had no choice but become a resident to stay legally here. That's both correct and wrong, they do have a 'registration process after 90 days' & under 'international law' you become a 'fiscal tax resident after 6 months'.. But its unlike the legal procedure that non-EU citizens must follow to obtain their residence permit in the country.
