Hi There,

My husband and I along with our 8 year old son will be relocating to         Mijas Costa later this year.

My son is learning Spanish and will be attending a Spanish school 😬

We are looking at the La Cala area but will consider other costal areas.

I'm looking for any advice on areas, work, schools, settling in, health care. Do's don't's recent success stories and even horror stories.

All advice is greatly appricated

With thanks

The Sloan family

One bit of advice of many i would give is get your nie before you come as you will not be able to buy things you need like a car or phone line etc and it takes about a month to get.

Also if your boy is going to go to pulic school you will all need your nie to then get registered on the padron for school.

If you go self employed (atonamo) you will all get health cards.

Bring your european health cards you can then use if you need to go to hospital free any time.

We moved out here back in April and we found getting an NIE pretty straight-forward. Just trip down to local police station with passport and copy, plus NIE application form filled in. We got our NIEs in a couple of days. You can also get a solicitor or agent to do it for you for about 60 euros each.

You will need to go to your local town hall to get your Empadronamiento, which you will need if you want to buy a car for instance. It shows that you are registered with the local town.
