Buying a holiday home in La Cala

Hello there
This is my first post so be gentle with me.
My husband and I live in the UK but have an apartment in downtown Marbella. We have decided to move as, to be honest, we have been made to feel quite unwelcome in our block, out of 74 flats only 3 are English, and the Spanish are really hostile towards us. ANYWAY, my question is we are after somewhere that is fairly lively, some nice bars and restaurants, friendly locals and still has stuff going on in the winter....does La Cala tick my boxes? We have only been through on a bus ride from Malaga but it looked so nice...? Also is there a good area to live where it's about a 10/15 min walk or a short taxi ride?
