I might be wrong but sure the test must be carried out within '72 hours prior to arrival in Spain', the test centre in airport is for people before they depart.

Hi Chris

Before you can board your flight to the UK you must:

1. Have a pre-flight Covid-19 test with a negative certificate;

2. Book and pay for a Day 2 PCR test in the UK, if double vaccinated, or Day 2 and Day 8 PCR test if not double vaccinated 14 or more days previously; and

3. Complete a Passenger Locator Form at www.Gov.uk in which you give your Day 2 and Day 8 PCR booking reference.

You can take the pre-flight Covid-19 test up to 72 hours before the flight.

I would take it as early as possible because then you know your are clear to fly.

If the in-flight Covid-19 test is positive then you cannot fly and you will have to quarantine in Spain for 10 days and take another test and, if still positive, continue the quarantine.  Best to have insurance for this possible extended stay . . . .

The pre-flight Covid-19 test can be a lateral flow antigen test which is quick and cheap.

The lateral flow antigen test takes about 2 minutes and is available at Malaga Airport for Euro 24 but you should book it online.

The best prices I have seen for the PCR test in the UK is with Randox using a Ryanair discount code FLYRYANAIR (you do not have to fly with Ryanair to use the discount code) at £43 per test.

I hope all goes well and you get back safely and on time.

Best regards

Philip

Can I take a UK recognised antigen test with me to do before I return to the UK or do I have to go to a Spanish pharmacy?

You can get covid test done at Malaga Airport. You need to book date and time online.

Website is travelcovidtestcenter.com

You just need antigen test at 24.95 euros.

Hi

You can’t take one of our nhs tests with you as you need a fit to Fly certificate

I also suggest you book an antigen test to coincide with your arrival,  go down to departures and all very simple.

Hi Philip

I am traveling to to the area of La Cala De Mijas in late September, hopefully the travel review due on 25th Aug will be good news for returning to the UK ,if not can I confirm one of your points.

Is it a PCR test that is required to return form Spain to the UK or the Antigen test ? and is there a location that you know of in the area of La Cala that will do this test and supply the fit to fly certificate.

Hi Philip.

The uk gov are advising you take a pcr test but it is not compulsory. Most people still seem to be doing the antigen test. I’m sorry I don’t know about testing in La Cala but if you google it you can usually find somewhere.  Otherwise use the Costa del sol travel forum on Facebook and ask the question. It is a very useful FB page
