We are hoping to stay in La Cala for a week in mid Sept travelling from the UK.  Has anyone any advice as to what happens if your pre departure Covid test needed to return to the UK is positive. For example can you isolate in a holiday rental, how do you get food supplies etc.

Thanks Julie

Hi Julie

I have not been in this position and cannot directly answer your question with certainty, however, I believe that you are only expected to self-isolate, as in the UK, not quarantine in a government hotel, and would be expected to shop online or get someone else to do the shopping for you.

I would add that, if you are staying in an apartment, the risk of infection is relatively low. Transmission in holiday locations is high because most tourists stay in hotels where they live in unusually high density, share narrow corridors and open plan restaurants with 100s of other tourists and hotel staff and, in the evenings, go to night clubs, consume substantial quantities of alcohol and indulge in mouth to mouth contact with strangers.  And only 1 in 35 become infected . . . . you could not achieve a higher rate of transmission if you tried!

I would urge you to consider taking out travel insurance and checking the policy wording, to see if it will cover the cost of additional accommodation and travel expenses before you purchase.  I believe EasyJet's insurance does cover this although it must be purchased at least 3 days before travel ie not after you have tested positive!

Best regards
