Hi All

Looking to take up residency in a couple of years time, but i have a few niggling queries as follows.

1) on the basis that i take up residency in 2024, is a UK driving liscense no longer valid, how difficult is a spanish driving test etc.

2) when the proposed date arrives i will be retired with no income apart from a life time of saving of which i have no intentions of paying any further taxes on.

A) i understand there is tax to be paid on pension which does not bother me.

B) As a retiree do you have to file a tax return every year.

C) I have heard rumours that if you sell a property in the UK and then buy your property in Spain in the same year, you are liable to capital gains tax. Is this true, even if you have no income as such.

D) Apart from standard utilities, what other tax would a retired pensioner be expected to pay in Spain.

I fully understand i need to engage with a Tax expert, can anybody recomend one in Fuengirola.

Driving test not easy, written can be in English physical test only in Spanish, watch for a deal UK to swap in future.

No tax on savings just interest,

Tax on all pensions unless a civil servant then paid in UK.

First Year you have to file a return which shows all world wide assets, note tax threshold to start paying tax about half UK.

If you are over 65 no capitol gain tax if UK property your sole long term residence, but to keep life simple best to sell year before you leave, their fiscal year starts 1st January, if you get residence mid or late year is back dated to 1st January.

Tip rent before you buy, the market here very shaky property not a good investment, (unless beach facing) Spain has 3 million empty homes, if you buy needs time to get a good deal and understand the market. Idealista shows most properties for sale, do you own research don't use one agent.

This firm of accountants will help you https://www.lemon.consulting/

This Malaga firm also very good with advice and you can make your own tax returns via them, lots of answers on web site.

Good luck,

Thanks David

after further research i think the spanish driving liscence issue will be resolved, also the 90 day rule will move to 182 consecutive days.

Tax is the key issue for me, i will not be paying tax on money that has already been taxed, my personel wealth that is.

Does anybody have any comments or knowlege of Gestoria Bravo in Fuengirola.

Lemmons starting prices seem expensive.

Thanks for the information.

The 90 day rule is Schengen are not Spain? I see no changes to 90 days, use of foreign licence 6 months from residence. Re- tax Spain has a wealth tax, Taxadora are cheap and will answer all question on line, they are vey good.  tax-free allowance of €700,000. All people first year must complete. Modelo 210  https://taxadora.com/non-resident-tax-modelo-210/
