Hi. Looking for some advice. I have a house in Frigiliana in the old quarter. I arrived to the house after 18 months        pandemic isolation to find a number of dead swallows on my terrace and cat faeces all over the place. Really not nice because we have artificial grass laid and the terrace is part of our home. I also found small black bags with cat food inside which appear to have been thrown from street level onto the terrace. We have tried to dis-infect the area as much as possible but the cat comes back every night or day when we leave to sh*t (sorry) so annoyed. Any ideas?

If you google Cat Deterrent there are plenty of harmless deterrents available. I would say that you need to make sure that the area is completely clean with no lingering smells to attract them, buy a deterrent from Amazon or similar and then it's simply a case of retraining the cats to know that they are not welcome. However, if you have neighbours that throw food to feed them you will perhaps need to ask them to stop as the cats will be getting mixed messages.

Thanks Andy. Thats the route i,m going down. Our stays here are short and I worry what will happen to the place while were away. Someone local has decided that were not there all the time so use his place as a cat shelter! As we know cats are creatures of habit and I need to break the cycle. If i,m away the cycle continues.

Thanks

It's always difficult when you have well meaning neighbours who also sadly lack common sense. I guess if you can make friends with whoever it is and gently nudge them in the right direction it's a better approach than a confrontation and will likely give you a better end result... Good luck!
