Do you have residency?

if not then you can only stay for 90 out of 180 days within the EU (whole of EU stays are included).

Many thanks duncanfitz for taking the time to reply, i think my original massage was a bit vague. i realise that one would have to apply for residency is this a difficult process after brexit, would my pension be taxed in the uk/spain or both. the income they say your must have is that per person or couple.and the lump sum who holds that

You need to apply for a Non Lucrative Visa (NLV) at your local consulate in the UK. It can’t be applied for in Spain.

You would be applying for Spanish residency. Therefore you would also then become tax residents in Spain so tax would need to be paid in Spain.

The “lump sum” is actually access to funds. A couple would need to show funds of approximately €27,000 for the first applicant and approximately €7,000 for the second.

You will also need to have private medical insurance (with no excess).

Plus other additional documents as well as official spanish translations.

It is a 12 month visa that can be renewed for 2 years and then an additional 2 years when you then get full Spanish residency

Takes about 3 - 6 months.

Good luck!

What is meant by 90 out of 180 days? When does day 1 of 180 days start? There are 365 days a year … so it looks like day 1 starts at the first day of a first visit and I can stay only 90 days between day 1 to day 180 … and then day 1 for the next 180 days starts at day 181 from the first allowable period.

Do I understand this correctly?

It has to be Spanish and private. The government won’t sell you medical insurance.
