Hi there,

My partner and I are wanting to buy our first property in Spain. We  decided on Almeria as we loved the rugged scenery, but because of lack of flights between October through to April, the times of the journeys and the prices we have decided to look at other areas. We, like others in the forum are now ready to fly out to Malaga, hire a car, decide on a base and do the deed. Any advice on choosing a travel agent, car hire and the best place to stay while we do this would be greatly appreciated. We newbies  need help. Doreen74

It seems like you might be at a very early stage in the whole process. First advice would be to not buy anywhere that's actually a second choice. If Almeria is where you really want to be then make that work for you, don't buy elsewhere because there are a few barriers in your way. You won't ever be happy somewhere you don't really want to be. Overcome those barriers. If the Costa Del Sol is your new favourite area, my suggestion would be a to come for a couple of exploring holidays to get a real feel for the area before you even consider buying. Choose a town that you fancy, say Estepona or Mijas or wherever, rent an apartment or book a hotel, and come and have a nice time getting to know the place. Get out in the car, travel around. When you find  your personal hotspot then and only then should you even think about buying. One step at a time. Just my opinion of course....

Be very careful with hire cars, if it looks too cheap then beware! Many such as Malaga, Gold, Rhodium will help themselves to your bank account.

I am currently using Sixt, wonderful service.

Hi there, I can't recommend more strongly that you rent a place for a few months first, best to get a feel for the area you are interested in first.

Fully endorse previous comments about renting first.   VERY important in our opinion, and something we should definitely have done !

Good Luck !

Hi,

We bought in Calahonda 2 years ago through viva who we found to be really helpful. As we were only looking at their properties, they picked us up from the airport & took us back. We’ve always used Malaga Car, car hire who we’ve always found to be brilliant! Emma
