I am considering moving (retiring) to Estepona on my own and just a little anxious about meeting people and establishing a friend network, just wondered if there were others who had experience similar?

Hello Christine

Due to covd-19 Social Clubs are either closed or have limited activities at the moment..See my links below. Also on  page 53 of the surinenglish 7/02/2020 edition you will find a list of clubs & associations you might like to join. Estepona has a nice Tourist Office, when open again, in Plaza del la Flores square.

Also Manilva Coffee Chat Facebook page is a good place to form a group of ladies like yourself to meet at a bar or restaurant maybe once a week for Coffee etc,

Good Luck &  welcome you  to the Costa del Sol when you do eventually arrive

Nigel

Hi Christine,

I'm also thinking of relocating to Estepona. I was in Spain in March and looked at a few properties for sale but lost out as someone put in a higher offer and the Estate agent didn't get back to me so I could up my offer. I was going back this year but may now have to wait until 2021.

I lived and worked in Spain - San Pedro (King's College) some years ago and always said I would go back some day when I have retired. That time will be here very soon, so I'm looking for properties on the internet + I have a friend and estate agent (not the same one as above) who is looking for me.

I live in London, how about you?

Regards

Pam

Hi Pam

Thank you for your response.

Yes I had planned to go out to Estepona in September to have a look at properties however due to the Covid situation this will probably be delayed until April 2021.  Its good that you have a friend who is an estate agent to give you some guidance, I tend to look at Rightmove in Spain but haven't got as far as making contact at the moment so not sure of the local process etc.

I live fairly close to London, in Hertfordshire, but both my daughter and sister live in London so I am a frequent visitor.

It  is such a big step it would be useful to have someone in the same position who I can bounce questions off, so if you are happy to keep in touch that would be great.

Regards

Please contact when you’re free, I have WhatsApp +1908-415-6650 or email [email protected]. Good luck gettin* settled

Hi Christine,

I am getting closer to buying in Spain too.  After trying to sell my small flat for almost 2 years It’s finally happening. I will be on my own most of the time too, initially coming with my ex partner to research property.  I have to decide on area so will be renting initially for a couple of months. Looking around Mijas Cala and as far as Estepona. Maybe we could arrange to meet up.

Best wishes

Carole

Hi Christine. We are moving to Estepona in March next year. We have been visiting Estepona for the last few years and absolutely love the place.  We got very lucky and accidentally met a local estate agent called Yasser. He’s an expat himself and knows the area very well.  We let him know roughly what we wanted and he found us the perfect property. Such a kind helpful man, he also organised our solicitor and everything has been seamless.  Let me know if you’d like me to pass on his number. I hope you get sorted and will look forward to hopefully meeting you in the future.   Nialll and Lisa

Hi Carole,

I am not as far ahead as you still have my property on the market.  Was originally going to head out to Estepona in September to have a look at view a few properties but this may now be delayed until April when the Covid-19 situation improves and things are  back to  normal.

Yes, meeting up would be a great idea.

Kind regards

Christine

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your email.

I spoke to my estate agent in Spain on Friday- he had 3 properties for me to look at but I want a 2 bed property and they were all 1 bed + too small for me. The reason I lost out with the other property was because it was with another agent and they obviously wanted to keep all the commission, so they sold it to someone else through the internet. That would not have happened in the UK because the estate agent would have come back to me to see if I wanted to up my offer. The property was in La Duquesa ,which is near Estepona. Estepona is a bit over my budget.

I don't know when I will be travelling to Spain, It is a wait a see situation!

Regards

Pam
