Hello, we are coming over by ferry to Santander at the end of the year with our dog. Could somebody please tell us the best route from Santander to Estepona and also dog friendly hotels along the way. Thanks in advance

.

Hullo there!

We often drive this route.  We avoid Madrid - the ring roads are scary and easy to go wrong as you panic!

Instead we go Santander - Valladolid - Salamanca, where we pick up the A66, the Ruta de la Plata.  This  A66 is great driving, not much traffic at all, and good surface.  We stay on the A66 round Caceres, Merida and hence to Sevilla. It's not too tricky getting round Sevilla, just follow carefully the signs to Cadiz, but at Jerez change to the road to Algeciras and again before you get to Algeciras, veer north towards Malaga to reach Estepona.

About 12 hours driving at a modest pace in all. We do it in 2 days, one overnight usually. However I cannot say anything about dog friendly hotels - you could try to see if the Michelin website includes that in its hotel details.

Best wishes

Look for F1 hotels on the internet, they are usually dog friendly.
