All of us who have a car in Estepona know that the numbers of them are growing. We know they now pollute the air and clog the streets, as Estepona has approx 15 kms of sea front, for example  if you live in Benavista you will use your car to just get to the town.,A few years ago AREME help set up the local Bus service which now has 3 routes  L1,L2,and  L3  we have now launched a petition for the attention of the Town Hall to give all citizens of Estepona a free bus service please back us up and by the end of the month I will let you know where you can sign up. Thanks for taking an interest.

I don’t understand why it should be free?

We are  happy to hear your comment, however the reason  behind a free service is to cut down on the circulation of cars in and around Estepona. If this is agreed, we would also be in line with many of the Costa del Sol's large towns `where the service is available. Currently,  Estepona has a population of over 70,000 people and if you are local to the town you can see the development will push that figure up to 100,000 in the future.

I agree perhaps if it were like the U.K. when older parts of the community get free buses etc but I feel that it’s shouldn’t be free for everyone. Wouldn’t this be a huge extra cost to whoever runs the bus companies/local town hall and therefore backfire and just be taken out of circulation anyway due to the inability to find it? If it’s a reduction in car usage, environmental reasons etc then impose a levy on car drivers like in U.K. cities.

Just to clear up one point, the free bus service offer is only for citizens of Estepona and would not be free to visitors, this would be controlled in our request to the Town Hall by issuing a travel card for people registered as paying their I.B.I. in Estepona.  If we asked the Town Hall to impose a levy on car drivers entering the town  I believe the mayor would see this as a vote looser and reject it.

I live 7 minutes from Estepona in Casares but would be willing to pay.  I am 64.

Thank you for your interest in AREME and please look out for our further ideas to help the citizen of Estepona. If you would like to support us by becoming a member for €5.00 a year we will be in Benavista in the new year  and I will give dates and time and you can chat with some of the committee for further information.

AREME are now collecting signatures for the free bus service. We would like citizens of Estepona who feel it would benefit  them and would help keep the traffic down. to sign our petition  form which is now available in the ADANA shop in Camino Padre Cura so why not support your local Foreign Residents Association  and go along and support us.

I use these buses all the time when they’d show up. Last week waited one half hours Outside Mercadona (right at the top of hill) Ave Andulucia for a bus which was suppose to be a 10 minutes . This has happened on many many occasions. Their so called  Oyster card for L1 & L2 bus machines Have been removed so my card is useless and means I do not get the 60cents charge but the full £1.10 charge. Again on many occasions the L1 has not shown up between 1pm till 3pm and I don’t mean recently or due to road works .I have never seen the L3?

please note this is all my experiences with theses buses .I am happy to pay for this bus ride but the important thing to me is not the fare but the reliability of these buses and after Xmas we have decided to hire a car / or buy .

My original question was not answered.  I live in Casares and would love to take a bus to Estepona, even if I had to pay.  My original question was, am I outside the catchment area of Estepona if I live in Casares.

The post by someone here says this is not a reliable service?
