Sabadell are very good and reasonable

Hi, I bank with Unicaja and they charge €15 per quarter. I always get an answer via FB or private message.  I do think it may have gone up slightly to €84 per year but we also have fluent english speakers in my branch.

Kerry, I’m with Sabadell and find €35 a quarter is exorbitant. As far as I’m aware there are no English speaking staff in my branch in Antequera. They are not one of approved banks where I can pay any utility bills and I’m left wondering what I’m paying €140 per annum for. Please enli...

Try Revolut, They are an international on line bank with the best exchange rates. You can load them with any currency and pay with any currency. Withdraw at any cashpoint.

I’ve visited my Sabadell branch twice in 5 years. Once to open an account and again when my debit card was renewed. All taxes and utility bills can be set up online

Sabadell’s generic English speaking telephone helpline is efficient and the staff helpful

I guess that if online banking isn't for you and you need English then I’d call into the various local bank branches in Antequera and make a note of what they can each can/can’t offer (starting off with ‘who speaks English here?’!)

A major issue with the Spanish banking system in general is that ATM charges are all over the place

TransferWise has become an outstanding and competitive FX provider for buying (say) EUR’s with GBP’s and having the funds transferred almost instantly to your Spanish bank a/c. It is one of the most successful UK start-ups of the last decade

I opened my account with a £20 deposit transfer from UK bank. Multi- currency debit card arrives in short order

You can hold GBP or buy EUR in whole or part (not the best time sadly)

You set up your Spanish bank a/c online to buy / transfer EUR’s

Free ATM EUR withdrawals up to £200 per month (at least used to be). Variable is the often unknown ATM fees charged by a miscellany of Spanish banks

ID is completed online. From memory either a live Vid of you holding your passport or utility bill + copy passport etc

Their low fees /FX rates make UK Airport FX offerings look like theft
