Non Lucrative Visa - UK resident

The NLV you want allows a say in Spain for one year after entering the Spain, you need income or the cash, it allows you to reside for longer than 90 days, it will expire. 'lasts for one year only'. It has to be renewed in 12 months then you will have to meet the criteria again, hence if want to stay any length of time you need permanent income, or enough saving to renew each year. (Brexit has made things tough) Also Brits can no longer swap their drivers licence and those who took residence here from 31st Dec 2020 can no longer drive, unless take a new driving test. Only EU citizens and a few others countries can swap. Tourists are OK but once you reside or get a 'Padron', which you will need, you are prohibited from driving. UK has no deal with Spain to swap  drivers licence, just madness, in reverse EU citizens staying UK can keep theirs, Brits taking up residence Spain need a 'Spanish licence' and means taking a new test.

we have just obtained Spanish non lucrative visas from Manchester consulate.

If you are applying for a non lucrative visa you have to have medical cover in place for 3 months and prove this when you apply for 

The visa at consulate…they were very strict on this and it has be minimum of 12 months cover

bupa sanity’s is what we got cover with and it was approved….. they mainly correspond in Spanish being honest it is not easy to put in place..

but good cover and a necessity to obtain no lucrative visa

Thanks for replying to me.  Do you mean that I need to prove that I've had insurance for 3 months before I apply for the visa?  Also the insurance needs to cover a 12 month period after the visa has been approved.  We are hoping to be in Spain from January 2022 so will write this date on our visa application.  I was hoping to get insurance starting from January 2022 for 1 year.  If that's possible.

Also for your address in Spain, did you already have somewhere to live?  We are looking to rent.

When we went to embassy we were told the medical insurance had to be showing in place for twelve months BUPA sanitas provided us with a letter… we were told it had to be enforce three months prior to us go to mijas which 1st November arrival

If what we were told is correct your insurance needs to be active from early October…

We have a 5 month rental in mijas till March… if we like it we will extend and stay on.. unfortunately the rentals become expensive may onwards as they rental attracts premium money…. We are looking to buy a place but probably not till October 2022

if have any questions let me know… the visa process was tricky with one form in Spanish needing completion…but it’s doable. They will take your passports at embassy while the process visa .. Manchester visa consulate completed ours in 3 weeks….

Both your ACRO form and medical check form from doctor need to be translated by verified translator approved by uk SPANISH embassy and the ACRO CRIMINAL check form.. they then need apostlation at an FCO UK ..

No medical cover, no visa. Spain has the upper hand and asks that you comply with all the rules.
