Where is a quiet area to buy or live in Velez

if you want peace and quiet, avoid the old town, too many gitanos. The Spanish are a noisy bunch anyway, but the gitanos are VERY noisy. Think blaring teles and radios, barking dogs and even cockerels. Before we bought, we rented in the old town. When our neighbours came out in the evenings, playing guitar and the women clapped their hands and danced flamenco, we thought it wonderfully authentic at first. This definitely wore thin after a few nights, particularly as it went on until the early morning hours, night after night. We quickly realised that the old town might be pretty, but it was not for us. Other than the noise, there are other issues. Carrying your shopping up that steep hill (the supermarkets do not deliver to the old town because of the limited vehicle access). Carrying your rubbish down to the bins. No deliveries from shops. How do people get their furniture delivered, or building materials? They must carry it up. I suppose that is why houses get sold furnished and many of the houses fall apart. If you want to live in a traditional Spanish neighbourhood, have a look at the Cruz Verde or the Cruz Cordero areas in the north of town. Still old and pretty, but a little bit more upmarket than the old town. Or at the Olivos neighbourhood in the south of town, near the health centre. Very conveniently located for shops, doctors and the busses. Or, indeed, Torre del Mar. Most of the flats where my friends live seem to be quiet enough. And don't get fooled into thinking the countryside is quiet. Everybody in the country has at least one dog, most have more. And when one starts, they all go off. And it echoes nicely between the hills! About the villages, I can't pass comment. Most of them are quite steep, got limited parking and have not many facilities, but if they are quiet or not, I do not know.
