Hi is it still possible to travel back to the uk via France, my son who lives in the uk has developed medical problems (non virus) so we really need to return. I understand there are issues with hotels but that is something we would look at on the journey.

Hi Andy

Look at this link below. You will need to complete various forms in French for your Journey,it looks like. You would have to show these at the Spanish/ French Border. There may be other things to consider, I do not really know. Seek help from the French Embassey in Spain.

Good Luck

The answer generally is no.

Contact CAB Spain, UK and French Embassies, and ignore whatever you are told on here - why would we know? We're unable to take a trip to the next beach let alone cross Europe.

There are family run businesses which transport 'stuff', and could store then deliver once the lockdown is over.

It's tough. It's a world crisis. Moving around spreads the virus, which is why you'll find this road trip pretty near impossible.

If it's animals you're concerned about, other people are leaving them with trusted friends.

I spoke with the local police and they assured me that travel to your country of origin or permanent residence is allowed, so you should be ok in Spain.  I believe that if there are two of you, one has to ride in the back seat, opposite side.  In our case our car is registered in our destination country.  If there are more than two, I have no idea how this rule is applied.  You'll need to print and fill out that French form and show it at the border, probably for each person.  I have been able to make Airbnb rsvns in France for our transit.  I understand that we will have to show the form to the host when we arrive, along with passports.  Wish us luck!

Hi we came back to the UK last Saturday.  It was difficult to find hotels open in Spain but France was OK if you rang ahead to check.  I think all ferries have ceased now but there is a train running thro the tunnel every hour and its really quiet.  You need to check on the FO website for a document which let's you enter France but you can get a phone version.  Checks were minimal and no problem.  If you need info on the hotels we used just let me know. Good luck.

Hi there

I am in Malaga and need to get back to Cornwall . I am planning to take our newly purchased Spanish plated car back via France and the tunnel . I would be interested which route you took from nerja and the hotel or hotels open that you stayed in and if they were relatively safe eg sanitised , distancing etc. Did you eat breakfast or take your own food.

I think it’s 20 hours driving which I’m not looking forward to but as no ferry from Santander there is no choice as I won’t fly given the risk .

Thanks

Hi Jack

There is a train every hour through the tunnel and there are no problems getting on.

We used the Campanile hotel in Saint Jean de Luz just over the border in France and the Ibis Budget in Abbeville.  Both were practically empty and both were dog friendly, we had our two with us.  You will probably need to ring them direct to check that they are still open.

As far as facilities, there are none. Nothing at all in the hotels but supermarkets are still open and some shops at the motorway services.  Nothing open at the Tunnel.  On the plus side, the roads are quite empty and travelling is easy and fast.  Don't forget to download your form for crossing the border into France from our Government website.

Good luck!!
