Hello everybody we have a ferry booked on 28th October and intend to bring household items to our newly purchased park home using my van ,I didn’t think that was a problem until I’ve read about charges imposed on any goods ..does anybody know if I’m going to run into difficulties when I get to Spain ? Many thanks martin

Hi Martin

Not to do with your removal but have you bought a static caravan as you mentioned Park home?

If so where abouts and is it, maybe a link?

Now UK no longer in the SM and CU you need all the correct paper work or will face duty, UK has a trade deal but 'local VAT is payable on the value of goods'. For people moving to an EU country who can prove they have 'resided outside an EU/EEA  country for 12 months' can transport your personal belongings to your new residence without Duty/VAT. You need a mountain of paper work to prove this & more complex if you do not travel direct to Spain, the VAT is due in the country you are moving to. Removal companies now up to speed on the paperwork.

'This a very good page which might help, although it's for Finland the same rules apply Spain.'

I just drove down via dover last week with estate car load of bed and several other home stuff. One french passport stamping fellah in Dover, nobody stopping or checking in Calais, just drove straight onto the autoroute, then all the way down. No problem at all. p.s. just fill out the french entry declaration and have your NHS CV certificate to show in Dover.

That was good no 'customs check', but would hesitate to say will be the same for everyone.

What about if you’re not moving from U.K. to Spain permanently but have a holiday home? I’ve costed removal companies and the quotes include all duties , paperwork etc but I’m sure I read that  if the furniture is new then there’s a problem???

That's worse it's a "straight export to a third country now", if you have lived outside the EU and moving there to be a resident the rules apply in the link below, it says Finland, but the same, rules explained well. Your shipper should know the ropes, UK has a trade deal but there are SM/CU rules and you will be liable for local VAT.

If you are not moving from UK the items are subject to VAT. The only exemption is if moving and can prove you lived and worked outside the UK the EU rules in this link https://tulli.fi/en/private-persons/moving/moving-to-finland-from-a-non-eu-country
