Hi Joan.  I would try Direct Line.  (linea direcha).  We use them for property and car insurance and they are always good on price and customer service.

I have Home Insurance with Banc Sabadell

I had a flood from the apartment above so came to spain to get it sorted.

I needed 2 doors and frames replaced as they had swollen, the assessor said we could manage with just frames.  The carpenter refused to take on the job as without new doors it could not be done.  That took 5 monthe to resolve.

The assessor also said my damaged furniture was from Ikea, it was not and the compensation paid was 4000€ short so we were unable to replace our damaged furniture like for like.

I have to make a claim to my neighbours insurance for the shortfall, they have agreed to pay but it must be done via a legal claim. I have legal insurance with my home insurance. The legal team have sent an email to my insurance asking for clarification. They have been waiting for a reply now for 86 days since 9th March. They say they just have to wait for a reply and refuse to pick up the phone and chase a response, even though I tell them if you have not had reply by now you wont get one.

I have now emailed the Chief Executive of Banc Sabadell Insurance and have not receive a reply

MY ADVICE IS STEER CLEAR OF BANC SABADELL HOME INSURANCE

Hi Phil

Thank you for your reply, your experience is very distressing, it appears they quickly take your money but not so prompt when you have a problem and need what you paid for!!  I had considered Banco Sabadell as I have just opened account with them so much appreciate your advice.

Hope you get it sorted very soon

Kind regards

Mary

Hi Joan,

I have used Linea Direct for car insurance and they were good.  Someone hit my car in the Carrefour parking lot and took off.  Thankfully I got his license plate # and Linea Direct paid for the damage no problem and had English speakers all the way.  I was surprised and grateful.

I have not used them for home insurance and thankfully have had no need for testing the one I have.  However, after several years in Spain I am now using experts all the way who service my needs rather than the company the person works for.  Example: a lawyer/accountant or an insurance broker who can understand my specific needs and go to bat for me should things go wrong.

Navigating any landscape that has the potential for financial loss is too precarious for a non Spanish speaker I have found.
